Abstract:
Air travel is a widely used mode of transportation in today’s date. Unlike earlier, with advancement in technology, air travel has become more affordable than ever. With the increase in preference for air travel, airports have now become busier than ever. Over the years, airports have evolved into mini-cities reflecting the character and sense of a place of its location. Yet, the primary program of an airport is generalised in order to create a globally understandable system. India, one of the largest countries in the world by area, comprises of a total of 28 states and 8 union territories. With its sprawl spread across vast land area with different geographical land forms, air travel becomes a necessity to connect different regions in the country from remote areas to populous cities together. The Indian Goverment is dedicated to develop air travel infrastructure to
strengthen the country’s economy and open up opportunities for growth and development. The airport of the national capital, Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, houses three passenger terminals and two cargo terminals. As per the development plans of the airport, Terminal 2 is to be demolished to give space for Terminal 4, which will be a fully domestic terminal. This thesis project intends to create a design proposal which caters to the requirements of the new upcoming terminal.
