Abstract:
As the urban population of Delhi continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, the need for sustainable and efficient urban development strategies becomes increasingly crucial. Transit-oriented development (TOD) has emerged as a viable solution to address the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and the associated transportation demands. This abstract explores the pressing need for TOD in Delhi in response to the growing urban population. Delhi, the capital city of India, has been witnessing a significant influx of people seeking better economic opportunities and improved quality of life. This rapid urbanization has resulted in increased traffic congestion, air pollution, and strain on existing transportation infrastructure. The current reliance on private vehicles exacerbates these issues and hinders the overall livability of the city. TOD offers a holistic approach to urban development by promoting compact, mixed use communities centered around well-connected transit nodes. By integrating land use and transportation planning, TOD aims to reduce automobile dependency and encourage sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, and public transit. This approach not only enhances mobility but also supports economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability. The implementation of TOD in Delhi requires a comprehensive framework encompassing land use policies, transportation planning, infrastructure investments, and community engagement. It necessitates collaboration between government agencies, urban planners, transportation authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure the successful integration of transit and land development.By prioritizing TOD, Delhi can create vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods that provide convenient access to essential amenities, promote active lifestyles, and reduce the environmental impact of urban growth. Additionally, TOD has the potential to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance air quality, and improve overall urban resilience. As Delhi continues to grapple with the challenges of rapid urbanization, embracing TOD principles becomes imperative for fostering a sustainable and livable city for its growing population.
